Ms. June Arunga is a founding partner and member of the board of directors at Black Star Lines (BSL), a technology solution provider for cell-phone based payments and money transfers in Africa. She is also the founder and president of Open Quest Media LLC in New York.
Prior to joining BSL, Ms. Arunga was an independent documentary film writer and producer for BBC and Channel 4 television in the UK. Her work includes “The Devil’s Footpath,” a film of her 5,000-mile, six-week, soul-searching journey from Cairo to Cape Town, detailing the war zones, mining towns and refugee camps throughout the continent, and “Africa: Who is to Blame?” in which she interviews several African heads of states.
Recently named one of Fast Company magazine’s “100 Most Creative People in Business,” Ms. Arunga is a frequent commentator on television shows including ABC’s 20/20 with John Stossel. She has also written several articles and studies on the economics and public policy issues in Africa.
Ms. Arunga is an advisory board member of Moving Picture Institute, Global Envision and Hawaii Grassroot Institute, and a fellow at International Policy Network (London, UK) and Istituto Bruno Leoni (Milan, Italy). She currently resides in Ghana.
